The Finding Persephone Poetry Contest closes April 14

Persephone was kidnapped and brought to the underworld by her uncle Hades, who married her. The grief of her mother Demeter, goddess of Agriculture, brought a great famine upon the land. Hades was convinced to release Persephone so this long, harsh winter might end.

However, he fed her pomegranate seeds which tethered her to his realm. She would always have to return. A compromise was made with Hades, so Persephone would spent part of each year in the Underworld and the rest with her mother.

This brought about the seasons — Persephone’s return to the land brings a prosperous Spring, which carries into Summer, before she must return to Hades and the cold of Autumn and Winter descend. She is both Queen of the Underworld, and Goddess of Spring..

Persephone’s story is one of trauma and tragedy, which she transformed into triumph and creation.

This goddess is the muse of our foundation as our mission is to embolden all women in the managing and mending of their own trauma stories.

This is a safe place for those who have not always been or felt safe.
We will fight to keep it this way, so anyone in need can find solace in Persephone’s community.
